As a result of no more traffik campaign we have reached and raised awareness of:
- More than 2000 people face to face.
- Thousands more through our social media and website. During NMT week over 42.000 !!! Different people were reached by our Facebook page.
- Similarly during the weeks leading to NMT we were reaching thousands of different people!!!
During NMT we have raised and passed over 2600 pounds.
1200 went to support two projects in Cambodia. (To find out more about the projects supported go to the bottom)
We have also given 898.57p to help build the restoration/safe house. The money allowed the purchase of:
- 261 litre twin-coil hot water cylinder - £623.40, and
- 2-bar twin positive head pump - £381.79.
- Total cost 1005.19
Further 540 pounds were given to women's Aid to help one rescued person, who is not entitled to benefits, to stay in the shelter for 1 month.
We were also told that NMT led directly to arresting 5 people suspected of human trafficking in Belfast and rescuing 3 victims.
As a result of NMT movement Police have also had a few other leads brought into their attention. There were a number of volunteers that came forward either offering help with running the safe house or offering 2 different properties that could be used as safe houses. This is being looked into at the moment.
Additionally NMT has created a wide community of co-workers including MLAs MPs, charities and businesses.
No More Traffik is also now a recognizable name among people of authority in N.I. NMT has linked over 40 dfferent organizations and produced 21 different events during the campaign. Majority of it was sponsorred by gifts in kind. Most of you gave their time, energy, effort, passion and talent. The financial sponsors were The SPAR, Wright Bus, Love 146 and MCHN. Huge 'Thank you' to all of you.
As you can see you have made great things possible to happen. Again, thank you for your hard work and devotion to the cause. Thank you for rising above trying to promote you own organizatio's names and your agendas and standing together to make a difference.
Peace and freedom with you all.
CAMBODIA PROJECTS... more info...
Project 1
Asian Hope - Prek Pneu - Catch up school programme.
The Prek Pneu area in Cambodia is inhabited by the Vietnamese community, this community is at high risk of being trafficked as they are not recognised as Cambodian by the government therefore have no access to benefits or any support, they are also not wanted by the Vietnam, they are a people group without official identities which makes then a very vulnerable and poor people group. What the project does is provide a catch up school for the children in the local area. Providing them with an education will make them more employable and therefore making them less vulnerable to being trafficked. Money raised from NMT will be going to help paint the school and run a mural painting project with pupils of the school. NMT will also be paying some of the childrens' yearly tuition fee.
Project 2
Kone Kmeng - Svay Reing - Outreach Programme.
Working with local people groups Kone Kmeng aims to raise the issue of children at risk in rural communities. They unite communities with their outreach programmes to build them up to be traffick free. They work closely with the community to identify and address the specific needs of the children that they are working with. They then provide continual support and encouragement for the community to carry on the fight against trafficking. Money raised from NMT will be going to facilitate an outreach programme in Svay Rieng a rural community near the Vietnamese boarder.
